Standards Australia honours two outstanding committee members, Murray Teale and Jan Begg, with an award in special recognition for their long-standing service, as they retire from their various technical committees.

Murray Teale, who sat on multiple national and international standards committees for over 20 years, received the award in recognition of his dedication and commitment  as chair of Standards Australia Committee CT-001 Interconnection of Information Technology Equipment, a position he held from 2012 to 2022.

Mr Teale is known for his development of the original concept for an optical fibre channel test, which was internationally adopted by the International Organisation for Standardization (ISO).

Aldine Ward, a Standards Australia Program Manager who worked with Mr Teale on the CT-001 committee, described him as an ``excellent contributor, and passionate individual, who made Standards his life”.

Jan Begg was also recognised for service on several committees in different capacities.

She was the chair of the IT-030 ICT Governance and Management committee from 2014 to 2022, and the chair of ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 40 IT Service Management and IT Governance from January 2017 to December 2022.

Ms Begg also served as the Head of Delegation for Australia of JTC 1/WG 6, JTC 1/WG 8 and ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 40 meetings from 2011 to 2016.

During her term as the chair for the IT Service Management and IT Governance committee, eight standards were published and ten standards are currently under development.

Suba Ananth, Standards Australia’s Project Manager for IT-030 said that as the chair of a dynamic IT committee, Ms Begg demonstrated professionalism and excellent leadership skills.

Standards Australia committees and their members are the driving force that propel standards development and help keep Australians safe. Their tremendous contribution and professionalism cannot be over-emphasised.

Standards Australia commends Murray and Jan for their contribution and commends them on their retirement from service.
